1. Agreement to Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Sera (“the App,” “Sera,” “we,” “our,” or “us”), you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. About the App

Sera is a beauty and skincare app that helps you scan products, understand ingredients, receive personalized skincare information and product recommendations, build a routine, and chat with an AI skin assistant. Sera is an informational and cosmetic tool — it is a consumer beauty product, not a medical or dermatological service.

3. Not Medical Advice

Sera does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and is not a substitute for a qualified dermatologist or healthcare professional. Specifically:

• Skin scores, product safety scores, ratings, and assistant responses are based on publicly available ingredient data and AI-assisted analysis, and are for general informational and cosmetic purposes only.
• Face-scan results are an estimate of the visual appearance of your skin and are not a clinical or medical assessment.
• If you have a skin condition or any health concern, consult a qualified professional. Do not disregard or delay professional advice because of something in the App.

By using the App, you acknowledge that using Sera does not create any medical or professional relationship.

4. AI-Generated Content

Some features use artificial intelligence (Google Gemini) to read product labels, analyze face scans, and generate recommendations and assistant replies. AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. You should use your own judgment and verify important information (such as ingredient lists or allergies) directly on the product packaging. We make no guarantee as to the accuracy or suitability of AI-generated content.

5. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use the App. By using Sera, you confirm that you meet this age requirement. The App is not intended for children under 16.

6. Your Account and Data

You can use core features anonymously, or sign in with Apple or an email magic link to save your progress across devices. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device and your sign-in method.

Some of your data (such as your skincare profile, your face-scan photos, and — on the free tier — your chat history) is stored only on your device. If you delete the App or lose your device without signing in, that data cannot be recovered. How we handle your data is described in our Privacy Policy.

7. Subscriptions and Payments

Sera offers a paid subscription that unlocks the App’s features. A free trial may be offered; its duration and terms are shown before you subscribe.

• Subscriptions are billed through Apple’s App Store and charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase.
• Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• You can manage or cancel your subscription in your device’s Settings under Subscriptions.
• Prices are shown in the App before purchase, may vary by region, and may change; any change applies to the next billing cycle.

All purchases are processed by Apple. Refund requests must be directed to Apple in accordance with their policy. We do not process refunds directly.

8. User-Submitted Content

When you scan a product, you may upload photos of it. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use these photos to identify, verify, and curate products for our catalog.

We will only add an image to our shared catalog if it shows the product alone. If a photo contains a person or anything other than the product, we will replace it with a proper product image and delete your uploaded photo. You confirm that you have the right to submit any photo you upload.

9. Affiliate Links

The App may contain affiliate links (for example, to Amazon) that let you buy products. If you make a purchase through such a link, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not influence which products we recommend — recommendations are based on your skincare information and product data, not on commission. The option to buy is simply provided for your convenience.

10. Third-Party Content & Attribution

Some product information and images are sourced from Open Beauty Facts, used under the Open Database License (database) and Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (images).

The App uses Phosphor Icons, licensed under the MIT License. Ingredient assessments reference publicly available cosmetic ingredient databases.

11. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the App for its intended purpose and not to:

• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App.
• Attempt to access systems or data not intended for you, or abuse rate limits.
• Submit unlawful, infringing, or harmful content.
• Use the App for any illegal or unauthorized purpose, or resell or commercially exploit it.

12. Intellectual Property

All content in the App — including its design, graphics, the Sera name and logo, text, and user interface — is owned by us or our licensors and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the App without our prior written consent, except for third-party content used under its own license.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

• The App is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
• We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI output will be accurate.
• We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (including, where applicable, liability for intent or gross negligence, or under mandatory consumer-protection rules).

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the App or violation of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law.

15. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the App if you violate these Terms or use the App in a way that is harmful to other users or to us. You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it from your device, and you may delete your account from within the App.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

17. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have in your country of residence.

18. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, that provision will be limited to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
